The Civil Service Commission determines the grades and classification of city employment positions and provides rules for determining the merit and fitness of those being appointed, promoted and disciplined in the city's workforce.  The commission administers and oversees merit-based testing for those seeking employment or promotion.  Except as governed by employment contracts, the commission may hear appeals by employees on cases of discipline, removal, reduction and layoff. 

The Civil Service Commission regular meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 5pm in the Conference Room of City Hall.

The Civil Service Commission consists of three citizen members which are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council.
