Home Assistance Programs
The City of Brooklyn through its partnership with Cuyahoga County can offer three distinctive home assistance programs:
- Cuyahoga County Lead Remediation Grant
- Foreclosure Prevention Program (Dial 2-1-1)
- Cuyahoga County Loan and Grant Down Payment Assistance for Residents Program
Cuyahoga County Lead Remediation Grant
This program provides up to $10,000 of free work to remove lead hazards from homes of young children 5 years of age or younger. All work is done by licensed Lead Abatement Contractors, supervised and inspected by our field staff. Homeowners in Brooklyn can participate if they meet HUD income guidelines. The income guidelines are the same for the Lead Remediation Grant as for the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program:
||Annual Income Limit
|Each additional person
Owners of rental property can also receive up to $10,000 of free work if their tenant has children age 5 or younger and meets HUD income guidelines. Call Cuyahoga County Board of Health: 216.201.2000 for a grant application.
Foreclosure Prevention Program (Call 2-1-1)
This program is a joint effort of the Cuyahoga County Treasurer and its Executive Board.
Foreclosure Assistance Companies
There is no "easy rescue" from foreclosures. Anyone that asks you to pay them to contact the lender or to sign your deed to them for any reason will only make it worse.
Credit Repair Companies
You repair your credit with hard work, counseling, and time. If anyone offers a quick credit fix for a fee: BEWARE!
Do not Pay in Full Until the Work is Done
Reliable contractors do not require you to pay the entire balance first. You can require that the repairs are done before your have to pay.
Never agree to Falsify Applications
Some con-artists may tell you to "inflate" your income to get your loan approved. Once you loan closes, they get their bonus then disappear and you may lose your home.
