Natatorium/Swimming/Weight Room


Cardiovascular Room, Steam Room, Sauna, Whirlpool, weight room

The Natatorium houses a cardiovascular room, steam room, sauna, and whirlpool. The whirlpool is kept at 104 degrees and seats 20 people. The cardiovascular exercise room contains the following equipment: Adjustable Bench, 4 Station Gym with Leg Press, Max Rack, 2 Treadmills, 2 Cross Trainers, Punching Bag and 1 Stairmaster. The steam room (moist heat) and sauna room (dry heat) are excellent for relaxation.

The steam room, sauna, and whirlpool are restricted to patrons 16 years of age and over.  Upon entering the facility you must show proof of age and sign in with the cashier.  If you fail to comply, admittance will be prohibited in these areas.  Students 14 and 15 years of age may use the cardiovascular room and weight room when accompanied by an adult. 

Daily hours for these facilities will be:

  • Monday through Friday: 7:30am - 1pm, 4:00pm - 8:00pm
  • Saturday: 8:00am-6:00pm
  • Sunday: CLOSED

Please monitor your time in accordance with your health and age, and physical condition; for steam/sauna/whirlpool activities do not exceed fifteen (15) minutes.

Wading Pool: The youngest swimmers can beat the heat in the summer. The natatorium houses a 20 ft. by 10 ft. and 1 ft. in depth wading pool. Resident card holders and children 5 & under admitted free; Non-Resident Adult & Child $9.00 general admission fee
All infants and toddlers are required to wear a swim diaper in all pools.

NATATORIUM RULES

  1. Pool Facilities may only be used when there is a lifeguard on duty.
  2. No street clothes or shoes permitted on deck.
  3. Proper swimming attire required. Click HERE to see permitted attire.
  4. Everyone must shower before entering the pool area.
  5. No personal grooming on the pool deck (ex. shaving, clipping nails).
  6. No one may enter the pool area with open sores or infections.
  7. Swim testing at the lifeguard's discretion for anyone 16 and under.
  8. No personal flotation devices allowed including life jackets, water wings, masks, fins, etc. during public swim.
  9. All diving must be done in the indicated area.
  10. Do not attempt to do more than your physical conditions will permit.
  11. Adults must stay with children 8 years and under at all times in the facility. Children 6 and under must have an adult in the water with them at all times.
  12. No gum, food, beverages, etc. are permitted in the pool/deck areas or locker rooms.
  13. No strollers, radios, clothes, chairs, or personal property are permitted on pool deck or swimming area.
  14. Absolutely no horseplay (running, pushing, dunking, hanging on ropes, or playing on bulkhead) is permitted.
  15. Lifeguards will adhere to and strictly enforce all swimming pool and building rules.
  16. Obey all the rules and regulations set by the pool management or be subject to losing your swimming privileges.
  17. Report all accident and injuries to the pool staff.
  18. THE DECISION OF THE LIFEGUARD OR MANAGEMENT IS FINAL.

Weather Closures

The outdoor/indoor pool and the swim area may close on occasion due to inclement weather. Anytime lightning is visible or a storm warning is announced for the area, the guards will ask swimmers to leave the area immediately. Diving area and indoor pool activities will be subject to change.

Procedure for clean-up of human waste and bodily fluid:  
  1. Please notify the guard on duty
  2. Lifeguard will notify the manager on duty
  3. Pool will be cleared of patrons
  4. Pool will be skimmed and super chlorinated
  5. Manager will designate when the pool will re-open
                                                                                      

SPECIAL EVENTS/CLOSINGS

The Indoor Pool will be CLOSED on December 13th and will reopen on December 14th at 4 p.m.

The Natatorium will CLOSE at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20th for a lifeguard in-service.

To receive resident rate, a current resident recreation identification card must be shown.

Non-Resident Identification Required

All non-residents ages 16 and over using the natatorium facilities of the Brooklyn Recreation Center are required to present either a valid Ohio driver's license or State of Ohio identification card when paying general admission for entry. If neither of these types of identification are available a non-resident may purchase a non-resident identification card at the center for $5.00 during regular identification card hours. Two proofs of identification are required to purchase a non-resident identification card, i.e., birth certificate, utility bill, school or employee I.D. Admission to the facility will be prohibited if the proper identification is not provide.


Learn-To-Swim

Our Learn-to-Swim instruction programs offer aquatic classes for everyone, tots through senior citizens. All classes are Red Cross affiliated, and certificates will be issued to participants upon successful completion of requirements. The following classes are available:

  • Parent/Tot - Ages 8 months to 3 years
  • Adults - Ages 13 & up
  • Level 1 - Ages 3 & 4  
  • Level 2-5 - Ages 5 & up 
  • Level 6 - Ages 7 & up

Evaluation Information:  All children will be evaluated on their first day of swimming lessons.  They may be moved to a higher or lower level at the discretion of our instructors.  Please keep in mind if you are transferring from another program that standards may be different. 

Parent Waiting Policy: To create the best environment for your child, parents and spectators will not be permitted on the pool deck during lessons (except where the parent will be in the water with the child). 

Parents of children 8 and under must remain in the building during class time and must return to the pool deck to pick their child up after class.  

Swim Diaper Policy: Required for all swimmers who are not toilet trained.

Registration begins February 12th, 2018

Classes are held in half hour increments between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Please see class schedule at time of registration.

K.I.S.S. Swim Course

Kids and Infants Safety Swimming

Brooklyn barracuda competitive swim team

Offers a step-by-step approach to the sport of competitive swimming.  Areas such as stroke refinement, endurance, and conditioning will be covered.  Offered during the summer, fall and spring.  No swim meets take place during the fall and winter sessions.  Open to ages 5-17.

NEON

NEON (North East Ohio Nemesis) is a competitive year-round swim program that serves the suburbs of Northeast Ohio, providing swimmers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to excel in the sport of swimming. We have four practice groups that serve swimmers ranging in level from the beginner who is experiencing their first competitive swimming environment, to the advanced swimmer participating in national-level qualifying competitions. Our qualified coaching staff help swimmers succeed through a structured, supportive, yet challenging environment meant to teach swimmers about proper stroke technique and about how their bodies work in the water. NEON hopes to cultivate a life-long love for the water in each swimmer, while also helping swimmers to strengthen skills that will serve them both in the pool and in all aspects of their lives. Spectators will not be permitted on the pool deck. No Exceptions! Everyone's cooperation is requested.

Natatorium Birthday Parties

Fees:
  • Resident Two Hour Rental (12 persons or less): $50.00
    Each additional person over the 12 will be charged the current resident adult/student admission rate. A current City of Brooklyn Recreation Identification card must be shown when making the reservation.
  • Non-Resident Party Rental (Two hour rental for 12 persons or less): $85.00
    Each additional person over the 12 will be charged the current non-resident adult/student admission rate. Rental Participants must be seven years of age or older. Fee must be paid one week in advance of the rental. Refunds will be made if the rental is cancelled by the Recreation Department. Refunds will not be made because of illness or non attendance.

Lifeguarding

This American Red Cross certified class will prepare participants for the duties and responsibilities involved in being a lifeguard. The student will learn safety training, preventative lifeguarding, emergencies, records and reports, equipment, rules, health and sanitation, and proper lifesaving techniques.  Classes are typically held on Sundays during the Winter and Spring.

The Recreation Center will be closed on these days: Columbus Day; November 10th; Thanksgiving; November 24th; Christmas Eve; Christmas; New Years Eve; New Year's Day; Good Friday; Easter Sunday; Memorial Day; July 4th; Labor Day.
